This carriage system I took down and replaced with the following. One person told me that this is simply a terrarium. Although it has aspects of a terrarium it is nothing similar because the host tree is not taken from the soil of the earth which is the reason this process works. The picture below is one of many different ways to apply the water from the transpiration bag. In the following posts I will go into detail how to form the bag to also catch dew and fog. People really do not know about or take interest in a project like this during the rainy season here in Guatemala. There is skepticism that it will work because everything grows so easily, I have found that the plants grow just as easily during the dry season as the rainy season using my system so I am simply preparing for later in less than a month when the rains stop and things start turning to powder. Soon articles in the newspaper will start showing heartache and disnutricion, and death from the area called the sector seco. People will die in other parts of the world also, and I will be saddened again that people did not start this process that could of saved lives. This process is not something you simply go out and do and the same weekend you see results. You have to plan for it. What people do not see is that a tree has deep roots to find the slightest moisture. currently I am using 12 tomato plants 5 spinach and 2lettuce plants, and still have an abundance of water from the one tree. I will have to add more plants and refine the carriage system (the part that carries the water from the tree to the plants). The project is really bigger than I am. I need people to work on this to refine it with me. I am presenting the idea to some agriculture schools in the U.S. and here so hopefully the word will get out. It may get stolen because the idea is so so so simple. One thing that occurred to me was not use a tree but invasive vines. However the problem is that vines do not have deep roots like trees do. So vines might be more suited for sights where an area simply does not have enough running to sustain a garden but good ground humidity. The mile a minute vine be excellent because they grow high. It would be easy to put a bag (like a pillowcase) around them 10 feet in the air and you would have enough pressure from the water to run a drip irrigation system. Plants do not transpire water at night so you have an automatic watering system that shuts off. When it is hot the vine would transpire more, just as your vegetables would need more water. The only thing I can see why people would not do this is they don't like seeing a tree with a bag over it, but a vine would be different. It does take a season to layout, so its not like a home depot, set it up some Saturday. Vines take time to grow, but once it is set up. You do not have to worry about water. You could literally set this up in the middle of a desert...since the bag also catches dew and drains the water to the inside for the vegetables. But, I can not make judgement calls on success or failure yet, because no one has heard of this until now. It's going very well working on presentation video....thank for your patience. I saw this picture and thought, how many people are suffering from lack of food because they do not know there is plenty of water, right here in this picture.....Oh Guatemala. I tried to teach people how to do this method on several Facebook gardening groups. One group had well over 100 people interested the first hour, but I was quickly banned and blocked from the site. Why, they said I was trying to self promote this method. So that door has been shut. How do you teach about a method that has never been done by anyone but yourself, and have it not sound like self promoting? Banging head on desk, so, I am currently making videos and setting up a YouTube channel.....hope the videos will not become a comedy, Please be merciful in your comments. If you would like to get e-mail alerts when I post new information, such as videos, info just send me a message as a post, I'll see your email and keep you up to date. My first video will be an overview, and then how to make a bag that covers the small tree. It sounds like a no brainer, but the bag is important as it also catches fog condensation and this condensation can be used to drip to the inside of the bag with out letting humidity escape from the inside....confusing, that is why I am thinking a video. Until then I hope to hear from you in the comments below. Is anyone thinking of doing this in the fall, or from our Australia friends who are just starting their season. Hope to hear from you soon Blessings Jon Hutton How to get startedThis will be several parts, but I will want to cover the topics below. Each one will be a blog post so just click on the numbers below to be taken to your question. If you have a question not answered I will add it so please feel free to make comments. For questions about what is transpiration you can find it here.
